The Portland Trail Blazers, Portland Camp Fire and Hands on Portland will lead the second quarter meetings of the Blazers Community Builders Youth Corps in the Bend-Redmond area on October 14 and 15, 2003.
The trip was coordinated in tandem with the Blazers preseason match-up against the Seattle Sonics taking place at the Deschutes Fairgrounds in Redmond on Tuesday, October 14.
The BCB Youth Corps program includes education and mentorship focused on youth social responsibility and leadership, community service, and philanthropy, empowering teens representing communities from around the state and SW Washington with the resources to give $40,000 in grants to community organizations.
The BCBYC youth ambassadors held business meetings hosted by Horizon Broadcasting and the Red Lion North, Bend.
The meeting brought teenagers from the Portland-area Youth Corps contingency together with youth representing Coos Bay, Joseph, Hines, Burns, Roseburg, Eugene and Bend.
TheBlazers Community Builders Youth Corps heard a presentation addressing leadership and philanthropy from the Jerry Moss, the Director of Community Outreach for the Blazers. The youth spent time discussing social issues that affect teens in diverse communities. The ambassadors also learned about grant giving and how to produce and distribute a Request For Proposal, and ended their day watching the Blazers vs. Sonics game at the Fairgrounds.
The Blazers Community Builders third quarter meeting will take place in Salem at the State Capital hosted by Oregon State Senator, Margaret Carter.
