Blazers Dedicate Basketball Court
September 5, 2003
Today, Fred Meyer and the Blazers dedicated the recently finished basketball court at the shelter with the help from kids from Shepherd's Door.
Fred Meyer and the Blazers have teamed up to help homeless women and children rebound at Shepherd's Door. Shepherd's Door is a brand new state of the art facility in Portland that serves homeless women and their children.
For each rebound the Blazers made during the regular season, Fred Meyer and the Blazers donated $10. The total amount raised this year by Fred Meyer and the Blazers reached $33,700, and Fred Meyer and the Blazers have
added to that amount to bring the grand total to $55,000
dollars, all to benefit Shepherd's Door.
Blazers president Steve Patterson, Blazers general manager John Nash, Blazers director of player programs Jerome Kersey, Blazers executive vice president Erin Hubert, Fred Meyer vice president of public affairs Mary Loftin, Shepherd's Door, director of women's ministries, Jan Marshall and Portland Rescue Mission executive director Mike Maksimowicz all attended the dedication ceremony today, along with Blazers Broadcaster Steve Jones, who acted as emcee of the afternoon event.
“We are very proud of the accomplishments of Shepherd’s
Door and are pleased to be able to help. This place is about rebuilding lives and helping people rebound. That is something
that together with Fred Meyer, we have been fortunate enough to
help with,” said Steve Patterson.
