LAS VEGAS - The Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Atlanta Hawks, 95-69, in the second round of the Las Vegas Summer League Playoffs at Thomas and Mack Center on Thursday.
Portland has been one of the best teams in Summer League, with a 26-point victory here exemplifying that fact. Not only did they hold the lead for the final 35 minutes of action, Portland held a double-digit lead for the entirety of the fourth quarter. A 24-15 first quarter set the tone for Portland, as a 47-28 second-half ended Atlanta. Rim protection was the difference in the game, with the Blazers out-rebounding the Hawks 47-32 and out-blocking them 10-4. Portland shot 44.2 percent from the field while holding Atlanta to just 33.3 percent shooting.
The Hawks (2-3) were led by Omari Spellman, as he tallied 20 points, five rebounds and three assists. Antonius Cleveland accrued 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Robert Johnson finished with 11 points, two rebounds and two assists. The five starters combined to go just 18-of-56 from the field.
The Trail Blazers (4-0) were led by Jake Layman, as he collected 20 points, five rebounds and two steals on 8-of-13 shooting. Wade Baldwin IV accumulated 15 points, six rebounds and eight assists. Anfernee Simons led the bench with 20 points and four boards.
Portland will play the winner of the Miami-Boston matchup in the quarterfinals.
