2018 Summer League

Summer Standouts, Day 3

A look at top performers from Day 3 in Salt Lake City and Sacramento:

Derrick White, San Antonio Spurs

White continued to shine for the Spurs, racking up 26 points, seven rebounds and six assists in a win over Memphis. White lit up the Grizzlies for 21 points in the first half (hitting 4 of 7 3-pointers) and punctuated the half with a slashing drive and dunk through the Memphis defense. White, who appeared in 17 games for the Spurs last season, averaged 23 points during this three-game Utah run.

Grayson Allen, Utah Jazz

The first-round pick from Duke (No. 21 overall) did the usual Grayson Allen stuff – scored a few buckets, dished out eight assists, got in a scuffle with Atlanta’s Trae Young, and routinely got the crowd fired up as he dove for loose balls, drew offensive fouls and generally treated these Summer League games like they were the NBA Finals.

Wayne Selden, Memphis Grizzlies

Grizzlies coaches have to like what they’ve seen so far in Selden, who missed 47 games last season due to injuries to his right quadriceps and knee. Selden looks healthy (and strong) and powered his way to 20 and 26 points in his two appearances in Salt Lake City. The 6-foot-5 swingman hopes to keep the momentum going in Las Vegas. The Grizzlies have a July 10 deadline to guarantee Selden’s $1.5 million salary for next season.

Lonnie Walker IV, San Antonio Spurs

After struggling in Monday’s opener and sitting out Tuesday’s game (rest), the Spurs’ first-round pick (18th overall) finally broke out of his shell on Thursday, scoring 14 points in 25 minutes. Walker showed off his athleticism with a one-handed alley-oop slam late in the fourth quarter, much to the delight of the Utah crowd.

Justin Jackson, Sacramento Kings

Justin Jackson poured in 26 points against the Heat, his second consecutive game with at least 20 points. The sophomore shooting guard shot 53 percent from the floor, making several catch-and-shoot threes while also hustling in transition and finding success off the dribble.
