GAME OF THE NIGHT

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers back from an 18-point deficit to the Nets, scoring 19 points in the third and another 19 in the fourth before Brian Cook hit a jumper at the buzzer to send the game to overtime. But once there, Bryant cooled off while Jason Kidd kept up his stellar play to lead New Jersey to a 102-96 road win. Kidd scored five of the Nets' 11 OT points to give him 35 for the game, and added eight rebounds and 12 assists. Nenad Krstic tallied 20 points and 13 boards before fouling out. Kobe finished with an NBA season-high 46 points for the game, but shot only 14-of-36 from the floor, and Cook was the only other Laker in double figures with 14 points.

STORYLINES OF THE NIGHT
 1. Learning to Share
The Lakers and Clippers usually take turns at the STAPLES Center, but Sunday was a rare occasion. Both teams played in L.A. - not against each other - and both took narrow defeats. The Clippers lost 97-92 to the Pacers in the afternoon, and the Lakers suffered a 102-96 overtime setback to the Nets for the nightcap.
2. Third Time Almost a Charm
The Hawks were looking for their third straight win Sunday after starting the season 0-9. With the game tied in the final minute, Atlanta forward Josh Smith was whistled for offensive goaltending attempting to snare an offensive rebound, and Portland's Darius Miles hit a turnaround on the ensuing possession to give the Blazers a dramatic 77-75 road win.

ROOKIE WATCH
Martell Webster scored all 10 of his points during a crucial 18-2 Portland spurt spanning the third and fourth quarters. For the afternoon, Webster made 4-of-8 from the floor and 2-of-4 from behind the arc in a Blazer win.

COOL/CLUTCH PERFORMANCE
Darius Miles hit only three of his first 10 shots as the Blazers had difficulty putting points on the board. But Miles came through when it mattered, nailing a tough turnaround shot with 1.3 seconds left to break a tie and lift Portland to a 77-75 road win over the Hawks.
