Mission: Redemption
By Chris Rosenbluth

"In many ways, the Dallas Mavericks' 2006-07 season began when their last one ended, with four straight losses to the Miami Heat in The NBA Finals. Everything they've done since has occurred in the shadow of that disappointment."

A Two-Man MVP Race
By Mike Slane

"On March 14, Dallas hosted Phoenix in what many believe was the best game of the 2006-07 NBA season and a Western Conference Finals preview. The two MVP candidates shined, but it was Nash's Suns who outlasted Nowitzki and the Mavs in a 129-127 double-overtime thriller."

The Tale of Two Legends
By Josh Cohen

"This past season, both Red Auerbach and Dennis Johnson passed away, and that light diminished a little. Red, who guided the Celtics to 16 NBA championships, including nine as head coach, died from a heart attack in his Washington D.C. home on Oct. 28. He was 89. Nearly four months later while coaching the Austin Toros of the NBA Development League, D.J., a five-time All-Star and three-time NBA champion, suddenly collapsed and died also from a heart attack after a practice. He was 52."

Instant Classics
By Stefan Swiat

"On the surface, Nash's performances provided further credence to his supporters that he is indeed the league's best point guard and frontrunner for the MVP. While those assertions may be true, the real message in these dramatic wins lies in Phoenix's newfound success in pressure-packed games."

Kobe Takes Center Stage
By David Simon

"Now, it can probably be agreed upon by most basketball observers that there is no more divisive subject in the league today than Kobe. Or “The Black Mamba.” Or KB24. However you want to refer to him, there are really only two schools of thought regarding this man. Some feel he is by far the best player in the league, one who has unmatched ability to take over a game and carry his team. Others feel he is a ball hog with no conscience or concept of team basketball. There is no in between, no give-and-take. An argument among fans regarding Kobe can get about as heated as an L.A. rooftop in August."

2007 All-Star Weekend
By Michael Levine

"More than anything else, the 2007 All Star Game will be remembered for where it was held: Vegas, baby! For the first time in league history, no team "hosted" the midseason festivities. Never before had a non-NBA city been the site of the All-Star Game."

Injuries, Injuries, Injuries
By Chris Bubeck

"Start off with Dwyane Wade and Ray Allen in the backcourt. Put Paul Pierce and Pau Gasol at the forwards. Take your pick of Shaquille O’Neal or Yao Ming at the center position. And while you’re at it, add Michael Redd as a sixth man and Joe Johnson, Jason Richardson and Peja Stojakovic as reserves. Other than being a dream squad for any general manager or fantasy basketball owner, what does this star-studded group have in common? All of these players missed over a quarter of the 2006-07 campaign due to injuries."

Nuggets Strike Gold With Iverson Trade
By Dan Savage

"Six days before Christmas, Allen Iverson packed his bags and headed across the country to Denver. After requesting a trade and sitting out for several weeks, Philadelphia sent Iverson out west in exchange for Andre Miller, Joe Smith, Ivan McFarlin and two first-round picks in this summer’s NBA Draft."

The Rebirth of the Raptors
By Anthony Smalls

"Who knew? The Toronto Raptors are headed to the playoffs for the first time in five years. Who knew? The 2006-07 Atlantic Division champions are, for the first time, the Toronto Raptors. Who knew? The Toronto Raptors have as good of a chance as any team in the Eastern Conference to advance to The Finals this year. Who knew?"

Jazz Singing Sweet Tune
By Jeff Paolini

"After three years on the outside looking in, a stretch of futility that included a 26-56 record just two seasons ago, the Jazz are once again headed back to the postseason, this time led by the formidable trio of Mehmet Okur, Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams."
