QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Joe Smith "It took me 13 years to get 10,000 points. It goes to show what kind of talent he is. I know he has at least 30,000 more in him.''

-- Joe Smith on LeBron James, after he eclipsed the all-time Cavs' scoring mark.
NBA.COM'S FANTASY TAKE
LaMarcus Aldridge If you are not in the running for a championship title this season, but you are in a keeper league or simply want advice about drafting for next year, think heavily about players who will likely benefit from team transformations. For example, when Greg Oden returns from his injury, expect LaMarcus Aldridge’s numbers to increase. The presence of Oden will force opponents to double-team – freeing up open opportunities for Aldridge on the mid to high post. Stay on top of things with the Fantasy Index.

A STAR CONTINUES TO GROW INTO A LEGEND
LeBron James Visit Cleveland and you will understand the impact LeBron James has on the city. If you know nothing about basketball, you still recognize the name and face of ‘The Chosen One.’ He is what helps ‘Cleveland Rock.’ In fact, I have exactly 10,414 reasons to prove it. Just a few weeks after becoming the youngest player in NBA history to eclipse 10,000 career points, LeBron can now seriously call himself ‘The King’ after passing Brad Daugherty as the all-time scoring leader in franchise history. His 29 points Friday puts him at 10,414, and you can be assure no Cavalier any time soon will inhale that number. It only took James 380 games to accomplish the feat. His overall effort, nonetheless, was unmatchable for Toronto as he poured in 11 in the fourth quarter to minister Cleveland’s ninth consecutive home triumph. The rising legend shot a tremendous 14-of-22 from the field and added 12 rebounds and five assists. Earlier this season, LeBron racked up 39 points against the Raptors to steal the show in Canada. As a result, I think it is fair to say that no matter where he is, ‘We Are All Witnesses.’

  • ANALYSIS OF THE WEST
Kobe BryantTim Duncan The Lakers have one of the most prolific scorers in the NBA (Kobe Bryant) and, if healthy, possess two interior powers (Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum). The Hornets may be the most vibrant team out West and arguably have the most productive playmaker in the league (Chris Paul). The Suns may be the most intimdating contender if their new addition (Shaquille O’Neal) can find a consistent rhythm. The Jazz may have the most daunting home court after winning 19 straight there recently. The Spurs are the defending champs – meaning they clearly are the most experienced bunch. The Rockets are the storybook squad of the league after losing Yao Ming for the season and still winning 22 straight. The Mavericks have perhaps the best outside shooting 7-footer in league history (Dirk Nowitzki). The Warriors know they can pull off an upset after doing the unthinkable last year and the Nuggets may have the most dynamic tandem (Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson). While the Suns, Hornets, Jazz and Mavs were idle Friday, the Spurs, Lakers, Nuggets and Rockets won. It's clear; the West is wide open with a capital W!
    COOL/CLUTCH PERFORMANCE
Rashard Lewis It reminds me of when a group of kids are playing with their toys in the basement. The grown-ups instruct the children to share so each child gets a chance to play with each toy. The Magic would definitely understand this tuition after eight of their players scored in double figures to help snap the 76ers’ four-game winning streak on Friday. Rashard Lewis led Orlando with 18 points, while Hedo Turkoglu added 13 and nine assists. Dwight Howard, meanwhile, notched his 61st double-double of the season with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
    ROOKIE WATCH
Carl Landry The 2007-08 Rockets will be remembered for many years to come. They are the team that reeled off the second most consecutive victories in NBA history – 22. But certainly, Houston has many more goals to accomplish this year and after losing two straight, it bounced back in a big way. Fueled by the revitalized Carl Landry, who recorded 17 points after missing three games with a knee injury, the Rockets edged the Warriors on Friday in Oakland. Bobby Jackson added 16 as Houston’s bench outscored Golden State’s by 27 points.
    D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
Morris Almond Some of the best performances this year, NBA or D-League, have been orchestrated by Morris Almond. Earlier this season, the former Rice University standout racked up 51 points in one game and 53 in another to set the league record for most points in a game. You can expect Almond, who ranked third in the nation in scoring last year in college, to be apart of the Jazz’ future plans. For now, nevertheless, he is succeeding in the D-League as he posted 33 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the floor to lift Utah past Colorado on Friday.
