QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
Pat Riley "I've got to ferret out the guys who really don't care. I've got to ferret them out of here and just put them on the bench and bring in a bunch of young guys. ... The season's over for them. That's how they're playing, some of them, anyhow.''
-- Frustrated Heat coach Pat Riley, after his Miami Heat suffered another embarrassing loss to the Raptors on Wednesday.
NBA.COM'S FANTASY TAKE
Baron Davis Inconsistency is the bane of every fantasy owner. And right now we have plenty of it around the association. Andrea Bargnani seemed like a solid star this week with star Chris Bosh out of the Toronto lineup. Well, Bargnani had been a big disappointment, going 4-for-19 from the floor with 12 points in his last two outings before posting 12 points in Wednesday's win over Miami. He did, however, leave the game with an injury. Then there’s Baron Davis and the merry-go-round Warriors lineup. Sir Baron snapped out of his funk with 35 Tuesday night against the Hawks. The rest of the Golden State lineup shuffles in-and-out with the frequency of cars parading through a fast food drive-up window. Good luck down the stretch. Check out NBA.com's Fantasy Index.

STAT SHEET STUFFER
LeBron James LeBron James is a Knick-killer. Then again, who doesn’t King James play well against? And who doesn't kill the Knicks these days? I digress. LeBron hung 50 on the boys from the Big Apple in Wednesday’s victory to go with 10 assists, eight rebounds and four steals. James was 16-of-30 from the floor, including 7-of-13 from behind the arc. In his previous two games against the Knicks, LeBron averaged 33.5 points.

CELTICS ARE TALKING ABOUT PLAYOFFS … PLAYOFFS?
Kevin GarnettPaul Pierce You can hear Jim Mora now, can’t you? Playoffs, are you kidding me? The Celtics were doing more than just trying to win a game on Wednesday, knocking off the Pistons to clinch a playoff spot and go up four games on Detroit for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. Perhaps even more important was that Boston earned the homecourt tiebreaker over the team that figures to be its chief competition in the postseason. The acquisition of Kevin Garnett paid dividends in this one as KG exploded for a season-high 31 points with six rebounds. His performance was especially big as Ray Allen had one of those nights where he couldn’t score if no one was in the arena. Allen was 1-for-9 from the floor with a mere three points. Paul Pierce triggered a 12-1 run to close it out by burying a 3-pointer with 5:11 left and the C’s never looked back. Boston outscored Detroit 20-9 in the final 9:03.
ROCKETS BOLDLY GOING WHERE THEY HAVEN’T BEEN BEFORE
Tracy McGradyYao Ming Break up the Rockets! Man it’s been awhile since Tracy McGrady and company walked off the court as losers. It’ll be a little while longer as McGrady led all scorers with 25 to go with six rebounds and five assists as Houston downed Indiana Wednesday at Toyota Center. That raises the win count to 16 straight, which is a new franchise record for the Yao Ming-less Rockets. Houston’s previous best stretch was 15 in-a-row, done twice before in 1993 and again the following season as they won their first 15 to open the 1993-94 campaign en route to a championship run behind Finals MVP Hakeem Olajuwon. Since Yao was lost for the season with a stress fracture in his foot, Houston is 4-0 and its current streak is the longest in the NBA this season. In addition, the Rockets have won 20 of their last 21. It is Houston's seventh straight win by 10 points or more, which extends a franchise record.
SIXTH MAN OF THE NIGHT
Jared Dudley Jared Dudley was just what the Bobcats needed on Wednesday. The rookie forward provided 10 points and a career-high 18 points as Charlotte stunned red-hot Golden State. As a result, the ‘Cats have won a season-high three straight, while ending the Warriors’ streak at four. Dudley was a nice compliment to Jason Richardson, who hung a season-high 42 points on his former team. The loss hurt Golden State, which is trying to hold onto the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Dudley’s minutes have increased with the loss of Gerald Wallace (concussion).
ROOKIE WATCH
Al Thornton Rookie of the Year voters, please, show some love for Al Thornton, who had 27 points in the Clippers' double-OT victory over the Kings. He was big at the end with 22 coming in the fourth and the overtimes. ... Jamario Moon posted a nifty line of 14 points, nine rebounds, four steals and three blocks as the Raptors absolutely routed the Heat to avoid their fifth straight loss. … Kevin Durant led the Sonics with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, but Seattle fell 118-106 at Milwaukee. ... Luis Scola posted 13 points and seven rebounds to help the Rockets earn their franchise record 16th straight win.
D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
Marcus Williams The Austin Toros are picking up right where they left off in February. Marcus Williams posted a game-high 32 points and 10 rebounds as the Toros snuck past the Idaho Stampede on Wednesday. Williams hit a reverse layup with 36.3 seconds left to snap a 101-101 tie and Austin never relinquished the lead. It was the Toros’ second straight win to open March as they ended last month with two straight victories and winning five out of its final six for February. Mouhamed Sene was sensational in his own right with 30 points and 18 boards for the Stampede in the loss.
