QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"The way we played tonight is good enough to beat lesser teams. It's not good enough to beat the Spurs."

-- Seattle coach P.J. Carlesimo on Sunday, after the Sonics suffered a 116-101 home loss at the hands of the Spurs.
NBA.COM'S FANTASY TAKE
If you were expecting big things from Trevor Ariza in his first action with the Lakers since being dealt from Orlando, you were wrong. Ariza saw only seven minutes of playing time in the Lakers' loss to the Nets on Sunday and managed only two points. Although this fantasy guru expects Ariza's numbers to improve as he gets more accustomed to Phil Jackson's offense, it will be a lengthy process before he contributes anything fantasy worthy. Pick him up only if you have patience and a free roster spot. Check out NBA.com's Fantasy Index

STAT SHEET STUFFER
While a number of factors have been instrumental in the Toronto Raptors' slow start to the season, fans north of the border can rest a little easier now that Jose Calderon is heating up. With T.J. Ford still out due to a stinger in his left arm, Calderon stepped up his game on Sunday, notching 19 points, 14 assists and two steals in Toronto's win over the Bulls. The Raptors improved to 5-2 this season when their young guard scores in double figures.

KING OF THE TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Watch out Jason Kidd, King James is coming for your triple-double crown. Ok, not quite yet, but LeBron is putting the NBA's active triple-double leader on notice. After James torched the Raptors on Saturday for a ridiculous 37 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists, he showed the Pacers on Sunday that a king's feast can last for an entire weekend. LeBron unloaded on Indiana for 30 points, 11 boards and 10 dimes as Cleveland surged past the Pacers, 111-106. He saved his best offensive performance for late in the game, scoring 14 in the final period to help spark a Cavs' rally. LeBron became the first player to tally back-to-back triple-doubles since Bobby Sura on April 9-10, 2004. Historical perspective: If James were to notch a triple-double in every game left this season (68), his career total would still fall eight shy of Kidd's 90.
JAZZ QUIETLY MAKING NOISE IN THE WEST
Check any ranking of the NBA's best teams in the West and you're bound to see the Spurs, Suns and Mavericks rounding out the top three in no particular order. However, one squad that often goes overlooked is the Jazz. Sure it is easy to forget Utah, after it bowed out to San Antonio in five games in last year's Western Conference Finals. But the Jazz are a year older, with playoff experience under their belt and are climbing up the standings in the West. With Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer both nearing 100% health, Utah dominated Detroit on Sunday, courtesy of two big nights from its aforementioned stars. Boozer exploded for a season-high 36 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Williams had 21 points and 14 assists to help the Jazz hand the Pistons their first home loss of the season.
LOCKDOWN OF THE NIGHT
It sounds a little crazy to say the Nets locked down a player who scored over 30 points, but wait a second before passing judgement. While Kobe Bryant fired off 31 on Sunday, New Jersey shut him down from the field, holding the Lakers' star to an anemic 7-of-21 from the field in Los Angeles' loss to Nets. New Jersey's played Bryant physical throughout the contest, sending him to the free throw line for 16 tries. The wear and tear on Kobe was evident late as he missed a potential game-tying free throw with 6.1 ticks left. Kobe was shadowed on the Lakers' final possession, forcing Vladimir Radmanovic to take and miss the last shot.
ROOKIE WATCH
Jamario Moon had the best night of his young career with 15 points in a Raptors' win over the Bulls, but it is hard to be the NBA's top rookie when Kevin Durant has arguably the best game of his rookie season. Durant broke out of his shooting slump on Sunday, going a scorching 11-of-17 from the floor for 25 points to go along with six boards against the Spurs. His nine third quarter points kept Seattle in it until the fourth, when it eventually fell to San Antonio. "I'm learning every game,'' he said. "Every game is fun.'' Tim Duncan poured in 26 points to help the Spurs roll past the young Sonics, while Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili added 22 apiece.
D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
D-League Performer of the Week Ramon Sessions may be off to the best start of the season, but Josh Gross is not far behind. In his first two games with the Thunderbirds, Gross is averaging 25.5 points per game, 3.5 points higher than his career-best with UNC-Greensboro. Although Albuquerque waited until round seven of the D-League draft to pick the former Spartan forward, the late selection paid dividens on Sunday as he he exploded for 31 points to power the T-Birds past the Mad Ants. Behind two big nights from Gross, Albuquerque finds itself perfect at 2-0 and atop the Southwest Division.
