  • QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"We'll take any victory. It wasn't pretty, but they did a good job defensively and we did a good job defensively. On offense we struggled but we came out with a big victory.''

-- Carlos Boozer, after posting his league-leading eighth double-double in a win in Toronto.

SONICS NOTCH FIRST WIN, SPOIL WADE'S RETURN
Flash to the rescue? Not quite. Dwyane Wade returned from offseason shoulder and knee surgeries Tuesday night and the world had a chance to see a healthy Heat team for the first time this season. Unfortunately, the world didn't see anything new. The Heat, who entered the game averaging a league-worst 83.3 points per game, struggled once again on the offensive end and allowed a season-high 61 points in the first half as they dropped a 104-95 decision to the previously winless Sonics. Wade entered the contest with 4:49 remaining in the first quarter and his team down by 10, but was unable to provide the spark Miami has been looking for all season. He paced himself early, taking only one field goal attempt in his first six minutes of action and guarding the much-slower Wally Szczerbiak. He finished with 15 points and five assists. Chris Wilcox posted 20 points and 10 rebounds for Seattle, which avoided its first nine-game losing streak in 35 years.
    STEPHON SHOWS UP
Stephon Marbury's back-and-forth journey across America ended Wednesday afternoon when he arrived in Los Angeles at around 4 ET. Six-and-a-half hours later, the Knicks guard was chatting with Isiah Thomas on the bench as the starters took the floor in a matchup against the Clippers. Marbury, who left the team and returned to New York because of a disagreement with coach Thomas shortly after arriving in Phoenix on Tuesday, registered 13 points and five assists in 34 minutes off the bench as his Knicks remained winless at STAPLES Center against the Clippers with a 84-81 loss. Despite watching Fred Jones take his spot in the starting lineup, Marbury was on the floor during a 21-2 run late in the fourth quarter to help New York tie the game in the closing minutes. Chris Kaman led the Clippers, who improved to 5-2, with 14 points and 18 rebounds.
    SIXTH MAN OF THE NIGHT
Lithuania, stand up. Linas Kleiza and Darius Songaila, two of three Lithuanian's currently in the NBA, are splitting Wednesday's Sixth Man of the Night honors. Kleiza, who has found his way into this box already this season, scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the field and grabbed nine rebounds to help Denver win its fourth straight with a 110-90 triumph over Portland. Songalia had 12 points in 22 minutes as Washington snapped a 10-game home losing streak with a 103-90 win over Indiana.
    ROOKIE WATCH
While one of the Hawks' two rookie standouts was adding to his rookie-leading rebound total, the other was rolling on the baseline in pain. Despite being replaced by Zaza Pachulia in the starting lineup, Al Horford racked up the first double-double of his young career with 13 points and 13 rebounds as the Hawks defeated the Bobcats on Wednesday night. Acie Law went down with a left ankle sprain with 6:47 left in the third period. He did not return.

  • COOL/CLUTCH PERFORMANCE
Mo Williams dished out a season-high 12 assists on Tuesday night, but none were more important than his last. Williams passed up his own opportunity to seal a win by dishing the rock to Desmond Mason for a 14-foot jumper with 13.6 seconds to help the Bucks break a tie and hold on 102-99 victory over the Grizzlies. Memphis' Pau Gasol missed the game-tying three-point attempt as time expired. "It was the point guard running the show,'' said Mason, who scored 15 points. "He got it done.''
