QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"Every question is probably a good question as to why we are not winning. There are a lot of reasons as to why we are not winning. There is no consolation for hanging around in a game and no consolation after a close game.''
-- Indiana's Jermaine O'Neal comments on his team's crushing loss to the Magic on Friday night, sliding them further behind in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
NBA.COM'S FANTASY TAKE
After missing two games with a groin injury, Chauncey Billups has proven he is still a great fantasy player in any league. The two-time All-Star and former NBA Finals MVP racked up 32 points and 14 assists in Detroit's 110-105 victory over New Jersey on Friday, his second 30-plus scoring performance in the last three games.

ZO REACHES MILESTONE
With seven All-Star appearances, an NBA championship ring, and an olympic gold medal already under his belt, Alonzo Mourning proved once again Friday that he is the ‘heat’ that keeps Miami ‘cookin.’ Zo, who remarkably overcame a life-threatening kidney disease in 2003, recorded four points to pass Glen Rice as the all-time leading scorer in Miami Heat franchise history (9,252). Beyond breaking records and reaching milestones, however, Mourning’s goal is to help the Heat return to the Finals for the second straight season. With Miami’s 92-77 triumph over host Minnesota and Washington’s defeat to Toronto, the Heat slid back into first place in the Southeast Division. Kevin Garnett, meanwhile, racked up his first 20-20 performance this season for the Timberwolves with 22 points and 20 rebounds.
IT'S AN INTERNATIONAL THING
When former NBA All-Star and current Seattle Sonics assistant coach Detlef Schrempf notched his 15,000th career point in 1999, another German star was learning the ropes in his rookie season. Dirk Nowitzki, who despite injuring his ankle during Wednesday's game against Milwaukee, recorded 30 points on Friday to become the fourth European-born player in league history (Schrempf, Kiki Vandeweghe, Dominique Wilkins) and 105th overall to surpass 15,000 points. The six-time All-Star and, arguably, the MVP this season sank seven free throws in the final two minutes to lift the Mavericks to a thrilling 105-103 triumph over the visiting Knicks for their franchise-record 61st win of the season and ninth straight overall. Stephon Marbury erupted for a season-best 43 points for New York.
SIMPLY A BIZARRE WEEK
After Rasheed Wallace scooped up a loose ball and banked home a 60-foot heave to force overtime on Monday against the Nuggets, NBA fans thought they had seen everything. Well Rasheed, you now have some serious competition. In one of the most remarkable plays in NBA history, Michael Ruffin's celebratory heave toward the rafters landed in the hands of Raptors guard Morris Peterson, whose 3-pointer from 31 feet at the buzzer forced OT. Chris Bosh, who racked up 37 points and 14 rebounds, rejected Gilbert Arenas' driving layup attempt in the final seconds of the extra frame to ice Toronto's 123-118 triumph over host Washington to remain the current third seed in the Eastern Conference. Arenas registered 34 points for the Wizards.
ENDING A DREADFUL SKID
Every NBA team will tell you that losing streaks are a significant psychological factor over the course of a season – especially if it is to one opponent. Earlier this year, the Denver Nuggets ended a 20-game skid in Sacramento. On Friday, both the Los Angeles Clippers and Charlotte Bobcats shattered two of their galling slides. Gerald Wallace fired in 24 points and 13 rebounds and Walter Herrmann added a career-best 23 points as the Bobcats beat the Bucks for the first time in franchise history, 97-81. Meanwhile, Cuttino Mobley registered 26 points to lead the Clippers to their first victory at ARCO Arena in 10 years. The Hornets own the longest active losing streak in the league with 21 straight defeats to the Mavericks.
COOL/CLUTCH PERFORMANCE
It was only fitting for Kobe Bryant's March to end with a bang! The seven-time All-Star erupted for 53 points Friday, his fifth 50-plus performance of the month, to finish March averaging 40.4 per game. It is the fourth time in Bryant's career that he has scored an average of 40-plus in a month -- the last in January 2006 -- the only player to accomplish this feat since Wilt Chamberlain and Elgin Baylor. Kobe scored 25 in the fourth quarter and overtime and hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 11.8 seconds remaining in regulation, but L.A. couldn't hold off the Rockets.
SIXTH MAN OF THE NIGHT
When you hear the words, "Shooter," yelled out by opponents, you know a scoring threat is inevitable. On Friday, Kyle Korver was just that shooter; smooth as silk. The former Creighton star pumped in 26 points and nailed four 3-pointers, his final one snapping a tie midway through the fourth quarter, and the Sixers prevailed over the Celtics, 88-82. Andre Iguodala posted 23 points and 12 assists, and Samuel Dalembert added 12 points and 13 rebounds. Philadelphia is 9-5 in March, its first winning month since going 8-7 in January 2006.
D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
In a matchup of the league's best, Renaldo Major shook loose for 28 points and buried the game-winning 3-pointer with 3.1 seconds remaining to lift the Dakota Wizards to a thrilling 103-102 victory over the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Wizards have now won four straight overall and eight of their last nine. Amir Johnson erupted for a game-high 34 points and 14 rebounds for the Skyforce, who had previously prevailed in seven consecutive games, and Elton Nesbitt chipped in with 30 points.
