QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"We came out in the second half, man, and just played some bad basketball."

-- Miami's Eddie Jones, after his team, which led by 15 points at halftime, got outscored by 23 in the second half of a 93-85 loss to Philadelphia. The Heat fell to 14-2 in their last 16 games at home.
NBA.COM'S FANTASY TAKE
For those of you lucky enough to have Corey Maggette on your roster, the eighth-year forward is paying huge dividends lately. Maggette had another superb night Saturday, going for 29 points on 7-for-9 shooting and adding four rebounds and five assists. In his last five games, Maggette is scoring 23 points and hitting 61 percent of his shots. Both are well above his season averages.

STAT SHEET STUFFER
In one fluid motion, Vince Carter snatched a misguided 3-point try out of the air and dunked it behind his head, beating the fourth-quarter buzzer, forcing overtime and resuscitating the Nets' dwindling postseason hopes. Carter went on to score 10 points in the bonus frame to lead New Jersey to a 113-107 win in Charlotte. He finished with 40 points, five rebounds, four assists, a steal and a block. LET ME TAKE A MINUTE TO CLEAR THINGS UP
Contrary to several sources Saturday night (this site -- at least for a little while -- included among the misinformed), the Jazz did not clinch a playoff berth, their first since 2003, with a 118-108 victory over the visiting Grizzlies. While Utah did move a bit closer to the postseason, it still needs one more win, or a Golden State loss, to secure the bid. In other playoff-position news, the Clippers extended their lead over the Warriors to a full game in the West's race for eighth; the Nets moved into a three-way tie with Orlando and Indiana for seventh place in the East; and, after losses by both teams, the Heat remain a half-game behind the Wizards for the top spot in the Southeast Divsion. Still skeptical? See for yourself.
D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
While Quemont Greer was helping the Dakota Wizards get back into a game in which they trailed by five at the break, Renaldo Major made sure his teammate's work was not performed in vain. Greer scored 13 of his game-high 30 points in the third quarter as Dakota turned its halftime deficit into a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The final frame saw eight ties and 14 lead changes, the last of which came on Major's jumper with 0.4 seconds left in the game that gave the Wizards a 115-114 victory. The win kept them tied with the Sioux Falls Skyforce for first place in the D-League's Eastern Division.
