QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"When you get in you've got to have fight. That was the whole message. ... Hold the lead, win the game, have pride. Or lose the lead and show us what you don't have."
-- Celtics coach Doc Rivers, who left his reserves on the court as the visiting Bobcats ran off 18 consecutive fourth-quarter points to steal their first-ever win in Boston, 92-84 on Wednesday.
NBA.COM'S FANTASY TAKE
Randy Foye can't seem to decide if he's going to be an impact player on a nightly basis. Foye scored 14 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter as the Wolves snapped an 11-game road slide with a 95-89 Wednesday win in Sacramento, and has now scored 24, four, three, 20, 16 and five points in his last six games.

STAT SHEET STUFFER
Elton Brand made a lot of good plays Wednesday, racking up 21 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots. But his best play was the one he didn't make. After his Clippers wasted a 22-point lead, Brand opted to pull his hand back to allow Jason Hart's lay-in a chance to fall. It dropped through the hoop with three seconds left, and L.A. escaped Milwaukee with a 104-103 win.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER FOR GILBERT
On Tuesday, Gilbert Arenas came up short on both his 50-point prediction and potential game-tying floater in Portland. Way short. Agent Zero bounced back before he left the Pacific Northwest, though, notching his first 40-point outburst in almost a month and first on the road since before Christmas by tallying 42 points in Seattle on Wednesday. Arenas did much of his damage from outside the paint, sinking six 3-pointers, 10 free throws and array of jumpers, but he went back inside when he needed a bucket. His tough runner banked off the glass and in as time expired, giving the Wizards a dramatic 108-106 win over Chris Wilcox (27 points, 22 rebounds) and the Ray Allen-less Sonics.
    MAVS BEAT CAVS
If Wednesday's showdown with the 55-11 Mavericks was supposed to be a statement game for Cleveland, that statement must be LeBron needs some help. LeBron James scored the Cavaliers' first 11 points in the fourth quarter, had 17 of their 24 in the period, and finished with 31, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and three blocks. MVP frontrunner Dirk Nowitzki scored just 23 points on rough shooting (9-for-24), but got help from the speedy backcourt duo of Jason Terry (21 points) and Devin Harris (17) in a 98-90 road win. "That's why we are a great team, because other guys stepped up when we needed them," said Nowitzki, who added nine rebounds and six assists.
    ROOKIE WATCH
Andrea Bargnani's Wednesday appendectomy surgery was especially unlucky considering the timing. The No. 1 pick in last year's draft, Bargnani had been averaging nearly 17 points over his last five games and picked up the Eastern Conference's Rookie of the Month award for February. There is no timetable for his return, but the Raptors beat the Magic at home without him.

  • SIXTH MAN OF THE NIGHT
With starter Shaquille O'Neal out for all but 16 seconds of the third quarter due to foul trouble and backup Alonzo Mourning in street clothes due to a knee contusion, Miami looked to third-string big man Michael Doleac for help. The ninth-year pro responded with 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting, seven rebounds and two blocks in 22 minutes. O'Neal had 12, three and one in 21 minutes and the Heat secured a 91-83 win in Atlanta.
    D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
Scooter McFadgon netted the third-highest point total in D-League history, scoring 24 points in the first half and two dozen more after intermission in Wednesday's 130-118 win at Colorado. McFadgon, a former Tennessee Volunteer, hit 13-of-20 field goals and 22-of-23 free throws en route to his 48 points. Five of Bakersfield teammate Mateen Cleaves' 14 assists came on McFadgon buckets.
