QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"I've been in the league for six years and I finally got one."

-- Golden State's Jason Richardson, who scored a season-high 29 points to lead his team to a win in Detroit. Richardson grew up just outside Auburn Hills and played collegiately at Michigan State. He had been winless in five prior games in his hometown.
NBA.COM FANTASY TAKE
If you have Ron Artest on your fantasy squad, you may want to consider other options at forward. On Monday, the Kings excused Artest indefinitely following his arrest on domestic abuse charges. President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie said in a statement that Sacramento will continue looking into the matter before taking further action. Now's a good time to start scouring the wire.

STAT SHEET STUFFERS
LeBron James kept up his torrid pace since the All-Star break, topping the 30-point plateau for the fourth consecutive game. In Monday's six-point win over the Rockets, he registered 32 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. He is scoring 32.7 points in seven games since returning from Las Vegas. Unfortunately, his struggles from the charity stripe also continued. He shot 5-of-9 from the line and is under 70 percent for the season.

A PAIR OF STARS REAPPEAR ON THE MARQUEE
Monday night saw two superstars return to their teams' lineups, and the results were mixed. Yao Ming was back in action after missing 32 games with a broken right leg as his Rockets visited the Cavs. Yao's evening began rather inauspiciously when he airballed his first shot attempt, part of a 1-for-9 first half. He picked it up late, though, and scored seven straight points as Houston sliced a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to two with 1:34 left in the game. But the Rockets couldn't get over the hump and took a 91-85 defeat. Yao finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and five turnovers in 27 minutes. Baron Davis returned to the Warriors after a 13-game absence and, like Yao, struggled to find his rhythm. He had 15 points and five assists, but he turned it over seven times to neutralize his impact. Luckily for Golden State, Jason Richardson was on fire and led his team to a 111-93 win in Detroit, ending a season-high six-game skid.
HE'LL BE BACK ... MOST LIKELY
If you felt a stiff breeze whip through your area Monday afternoon, there's a good chance Dwyane Wade, not atmospheric temperature or pressure changes, had something to do with it. The entire Miami area let out a collective sigh of relief when Wade announced he would forgo surgery and instead rehab his dislocated left shoulder, leaving open the possibility for his return at some point this season, either in the final weeks of the regular season or the playoffs. Had he opted for the slice-and-dice approach, he would have most likely been done for the year. A few hours later, Miami improved to 4-2 without their superstar guard thanks in large part to Eddie Jones, who scored a season-high 21 points in a home win over the Hawks. Now above .500 for the first time since a victory on Nov. 10, the Heat moved into sole possession of sixth place in the Eastern Conference, a half-game ahead of the idle Pacers.
ROOKIE WATCH
After playing well for the Jazz and earning increased minutes early in the season, Ronnie Brewer's role in Jerry Sloan's rotation has been slipping lately. Brewer picked up his third consecutive DNP in Monday's 120-95 romp of the Bobcats. Utah's lead only grew in the fourth quarter and, at a time when one would expect to see a rookie get some playing time, Brewer simply sat on the bench and watched. Everyone knows Sloan can be tough on first-year players, but fellow rookie Paul Millsap is still seeing quality minutes. How much longer Brewer sits is anyone's guess.
SIXTH MAN OF THE NIGHT
The Magic, having lost three games in a row and seven of eight overall, sorely needed a victory to get back on track and continue their push for an Eastern Conference playoff berth. Against the Bucks on Monday, Trevor Ariza did his best to help Orlando's cause. Ariza stepped off the bench and supplied 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting and added six rebounds and three assists. He played so well in the win he relegated Hedo Turkoglu to the bench in the game's final 16 minutes. Turkoglu, who had 25 points and nine rebounds, just missed his first double-double of the season.
