QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"They took us to the wood shed and used every piece of kindling they had."

-- Minnesota head coach Dwane Casey after his team fell to 7-2 in 2007 with its first home loss to Atlanta since 1997. The Hawks led by as many as 28 points in the 105-88 victory.
RICK KAMLA'S FANTASY TAKE
The problem with Emeka Okafor has never been his play, always his health. So until I'm convinced he's a safe bet, I can't chug the Kool Aid. That said, his recent play has been off the chain. His 14 points and 21 boards against N.J. gave him eight double-dips in his last 10 games, and one of those included 10 rejections.

STAT SHEET STUFFER
Gilbert Arenas gets most of the attention, and rightfully so, but Caron Butler is having a breakout season in his own right. His dunk with 2.2 seconds left gave him 27 points and helped the Wizards get their first win in the six games Agent Zero has failed to score 20 points. Butler played all 48 minutes, shot 11-for-22 from the floor, and added five rebounds and a career-high 10 assists in the 99-98 victory over New York.

HOME NOT-SO-SWEET HOME
This wasn't what Chris Webber envisioned when he officially signed with the Pistons on Tuesday. C-Webb entered the game as No. 84 with 10:07 left in the second quarter to a loud ovation from his once and future hometown crowd and made his first shot, but finished 1-of-5 from the floor for two points to go with five rebounds and three assists in 17 minutes. Former Piston Mehmet Okur scored 19 of his 22 points after halftime, Deron Williams had a career-high 31 with 10 assists, and Chauncey Billups missed as time expired in Utah's 100-99 road win.

  • LET'S MAKE A DEAL
Trading season is underway, and the Warriors and Pacers got together on a deal Wednesday. Al Harrington, Stephen Jackson, Sarunas Jasikevicius and Josh Powell are heading to Oakland in exchange for Troy Murphy, Mike Dunleavy, Ike Diogu and Keith McLeod. With the outgoing players already out and the incoming players not yet in, the Warriors had just seven players available to play in the second half of a home-and-home series against the Clippers. Recent D-League callup Kelenna Azubuike started and tallied 28 points and seven rebounds, but it wasn't enough to sweep the set in a 115-109 loss.
    ELEVEN EASY ENOUGH?
Only one loss separates the Suns' 15-game winning streak from their current double-digit tear. Looking for its 11th straight victory and 26th in its last 27 games, Phoenix traveled to Houston to take on the Yao Ming-less Rockets. Earlier in the day, word came down that Tracy McGrady's back was acting up and he would also be sidelined for the game. So, piece of cake, right? Not exactly. The Suns fell behind by 15 early and needed 21 points and 14 assists from Steve Nash to overcome the feisty Rockets, 100-91.
    ROOKIE WATCH
Teenagers are rare with the new draft rules in place; only five appear on NBA rosters. Ersan Ilyasova, the Turkish-born 36th pick of the 2005 draft, is the second-youngest of them, older than just the Lakers' Andrew Bynum. Ilyasova notched season highs of 22 points and nine rebounds, but his Bucks fell to the visiting Bulls, 99-90, on Wednesday. Out west, 22-year-old Brandon Roy (19 points, 10 rebounds, six steals) helped the Blazers cruise past the Cavs, 94-76.
    SIXTH MAN OF THE NIGHT
Morris Peterson and Rudy Gay each had nice numbers and both were part of big bench efforts Wednesday. Peterson had a game-high 22 points as the Raptors' reserves outscored the Kings' 50-12 in a 16-point win. Gay, a rookie, tallied 23 points, five rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocks as Memphis' bunch of backups outscored the starters 60-58 in a home win over the 76ers.
    D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
Quemont Greer had arguably the best individual performance of the 2007 D-League Martin Luther King, Jr. Showcase, but that wasn't enough to get his Wizards a win. The DePaul product poured in 40 points on 16-for-27 shooting and added eight rebounds and four assists for Dakota, but the Colorado 14ers secured a 126-116 win behind 25 points and eight rebounds from Elton Brown in the last of 12 games that took place over the past three days in Sioux Falls.
