QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"I think I've felt a little worse than this. But it's pretty close to rock bottom. Definitely."

-- Clippers forward Elton Brand, who scored 26 points as L.A. fell to 3-13 in road games with Saturday's 86-74 loss at the Hawks. Atlanta had not won at home since the end of November.
RICK KAMLA'S FANTASY TAKE
Andris Biedrins can still be up and down sometimes, but he's been up a lot more in this, his third season. The Latvian-born big is quietly averaging 11 points, nine rebounds and two blocks this season, and posted 15, 16 and two on Saturday.

STAT SHEET STUFFER
LeBron James bounced back from a season-low eight-point Friday - but not so much in the scoring column. He had just 19 points, but added a season-high 13 rebounds, four assists, three blocks (also a season high) and three steals as the Cavs improved to 15-3 at home with a 96-91 win over the Nets on Saturday. Cleveland will now be tested with a seven-game road odyssey that starts Tuesday in Sacramento.

FAMILIAR FACE IN A NEW PLACE
Ben Wallace spent six wonderful seasons with the Pistons - four Defensive Player of the Year awards, four trips to the Eastern Conference Finals and one NBA Championship. He bolted Motown last summer, signing a big-time contract with the Central Division rival Bulls. Saturday's showdown was Wallace's first with his former teammates, and Big Ben got the upper hand. He tallied 12 points, 14 rebounds and six blocked shots - his highest total with his new team - as Chicago held on for a convincing 106-89 home win to move within a half-game of Detroit for the East's second best record. The Pistons, again without Chauncey Billups, suffered their second largest defeat of the season.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH NOTE FOR JAZZ
If the Nuggets are going to compete in the West this season, they'll probably have to go through the Jazz one way or another. The debut of the ultra-undersized Denver starting backcourt of Allen Iverson and Earl Boykins had mixed results. The tiny tandem scored 22 points apiece but struggled to stop Utah's point man, as Deron Williams tied a career high with 28 points and added 12 assists and four steals in a 96-84 win on the road. Carlos Boozer scored 14 of his 24 points in the final frame to hold off a late rally. "D-Will was like, 'Hang in there, we're going to get it to you," he said. "Sure enough, it opened up."
ROOKIE WATCH
If Saturday's heroics are any indication, Brandon Roy has a knack for making big plays. The No. 7 pick forced overtime with a buzzer-beating pull-up jump shot and finished with a season-high 23 points, his sixth straight game scoring at least 14. Zach Randolph added 32 and 15 rebounds in the Blazers' win in Sacramento.

  • SIXTH MAN OF THE NIGHT
Monta Ellis returned to the court after missing five games due to a shoulder injury and made an immediate impact. Ellis had started in 20 of his 29 previous appearances, but came off the bench and scored 20 points on 9-for-16 shooting in 37 minutes. Baron Davis led five other Warriors in double digits with 22 points in a 108-104 win over Ray Allen and the visiting Sonics.
    D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
The age-old argument between scoring and dishing added another chapter Saturday. Clay Tucker shot 15-for-28 en route to 42 big points, but his RimRockers fell in Fort Worth. Meanwhile, Will Conroy distributed 20 assists - to go with 22 points - in the 66ers' 119-115 win in Sioux Fallas.
