QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"The two free throws at the end of the game were bigger than the long three."

-- Cleveland's LeBron James, whose seventh straight 30-point game against the Celtics included a full-court buzzer-beater and two free throws with 7.6 seconds left that sealed a 107-104 win.

RICK KAMLA'S FANTASY TAKE
"The Grizzlies and Warriors combined for 279 points Wednesday. Numerous players went off in the game, but Rudy Gay getting start, and scoring 22 points in 35 minutes, was the biggest fantasy development. If he's on waivers, go out and get him immediately, because a big second half is in store."

STAT SHEET STUFFER
Gilbert Arenas scored a whole heap of points in becoming the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for December, but he showed Wednesday he can do more than that. Agent Zero grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds, dished out eight assists and nabbed four steals. Oh, and his buzzer-beating trey gave him 32 points and gave the Wizards a 108-105 win over the visiting Bucks in the second half of a home-and-home set.

A DARK CLOUD IN SUNNY FLORIDA
Injuries have been a problem throughout the league this season - from Yao Ming's broken leg to Shaquille O'Neal's knee surgery, from Chris Paul's sprained ankle to Dwyane Wade's sprained wrist. But until now, they'd only affected the players. Heat coach Pat Riley will not even be able to stay on the sidelines alongside his disabled superstars, announcing Wednesday that he is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team to nurse his troublesome knee and hip. Assistant Ron Rothstein, the inaugural Miami head coach, will take over in the interim. Riley did make one move on his way out, deactivating forwards James Posey and Antoine Walker for failing to meet the team's conditioning standards. The Heat were paced by 19 points from Jason Kapono and 16 from undrafted rookie Robert Hite in a 110-95 loss to the visiting Clippers.
RETURN OF THE PRODIGAL SUN
Steve Nash's hometown of Victoria, British Columbia may be more than 4,300 kilometers (roughly 2,700 miles) from Toronto, but that didn't prevent Phoenix's only visit to the Raptors this season from becoming a homecoming of sorts. The two-time reigning NBA MVP was presented with his second consecutive Lionel Conacher Award, given to Canada's top male athlete, in front of the fifth-largest regular-season crowd in Air Canada Centre history, many of whom had Canadian flags or Nash gear. He did them proud, scoring 13 of his 15 points in the fourth, including eight in the final 1:19. "I just felt really slow and old for three quarters and then all of a sudden I had a rebirth," he said after the 100-98 win gave the Suns an 8-0 road mark against East teams. Chris Bosh had 26 points and 14 rebounds in his return to the Raptors' lineup.
ROOKIE WATCH
The premiere big-man matchup of Kevin Garnett (27 points, 17 rebounds, seven assists) and Tim Duncan (24, 13 and five) was fun to watch, but Randy Foye hardly blended in with the scenery. The No. 6 overall pick scored four of his 19 points in overtime and added three rebounds and three assists in Minnesota's 103-101 win.
SIXTH MAN OF THE NIGHT
Mike Miller hit a franchise-record nine 3-pointers for the starting unit, but reserve Stromile Swift did some work, too. Stro scored 26 points on 11-for-17 shooting and added nine rebounds, three steals and four blocks in 32 minutes and the Grizzlies didn't need OT to score a franchise-best 144 points in a win over the Warriors.
D-LEAGUE STAR OF THE NIGHT
Of the seven 14ers who reached double figures in scoring, Pooh Jeter had the lowest point total. But he had something to do with Colorado's 130 Wednesday points. Jeter scored 10 of his 12 points before halftime and dished out 13 assists, helping his team shoot nearly 64 percent from the floor in a win over Tulsa.
