RICK KAMLA'S FANTASY TAKE
"It's time to drop Steve Francis. I realize it's blasphemy, but he returned Monday night with three points in 31 minutes. He doesn't three, he doesn't steal and he no longer scores. I'd rather have teammate Jamal Crawford -- by a mile."
QUOTE OF THE NIGHT
"We expect ourselves to come out and play better than that. We had to fight to made it look respectable. With our fans booing, we weren't very happy with our performance either.''
-- New Jersey's Vince Carter, on the play of his team, and their fans' reaction to it, during a 119-113 loss to the Sonics.

STAT SHEET STUFFER
It's official: Dwight Howard is no longer a man. He's a beast. The 2004 No. 1 pick posted another monster stat line and continued making other 20-year-olds feel really badly about themselves. It's not that eating mac n' cheese and playing video games for nine hours straight isn't impressive, it's that going for 17 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and three blocks (as Howard did in Monday's win against the Celtics) is downright nasty.
SHOOTING DUDS

119-113 win at Nets

ROCK THE VOTE
Less than a week after polls closed on the most important election of the year, another voting season got underway Monday when balloting began for the 56th NBA All-Star game. All-Star 2007 will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, the first time festivities will take place in a non-NBA city. Fans around the world have the opportunity to choose the game's starters by voting for their favorite players via NBA.com or with a paper ballot available at NBA arenas. Yao Ming seems poised to win the popular vote for a third straight year. Unless, of course, you decide otherwise. So get out and vote. Remember, it isn't just a right. It's a duty.
KIDD GETS IN ON MAGIC'S ACT
How could anyone not love Jason Kidd's game? At 33, the 13-year vet is still playing the way his surname suggests, posting 20 points, 12 assists and six rebounds against Seattle, just one day after recording his 77th career triple-double. His performance Monday put him in rare company. He joined Magic Johnson as the only other player in history with 12,500 points, 8,000 assists, 5,500 rebounds and 1,500 steals. Kidd's efforts complemented another big night from Vince Carter, who scored 38 (the fourth straight time he's totaled at least 30), but they could not lift the Nets over the Sonics, who got a career night from Luke Ridnour.
ROOKIE WATCH
When you're the 49th pick in the draft, publicity and playing time are hard to come by. Just ask Leon Powe. Powe hasn't gotten the hype enjoyed by fellow rookies Brandon Roy or Adam Morrison, and, before Monday, he hadn't even stepped on the court. But Doc Rivers called Powe's number against the Magic, and the forward from Cal responded with 10 points and seven boards. Unforunately for Powe, the Celtics lost, 92-89.
SIXTH MAN OF THE NIGHT
Damon Jones locked this one up in the first half. He scored 24 of his 29 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including 6-of-7 from behind the arc, before intermission and helped Cleveland take a slim lead into the break. While Jones scored just five over the final two quarters, LeBron scored 19 of his 29 to fend off a furious Knicks' rally that saw a 14-point fourth-quarter lead shrink to a single point before the Cavs pulled away for the win.
COOL/CLUTCH PERFORMANCE
Jameer Nelson wouldn't be the night's cool/clutch performer if the Knicks had completed their comeback against the Cavs. But -- apologies to Jamal Crawford and Nate Robinson -- performances, no matter how outstanding, are neither cool nor clutch if they come in a loss. So Jameer's our man tonight, as the point guard scored five points in the final 42.6 seconds of the game to help the Magic ice their three-point win over the Celtics.
