Scouting The D-League All-Stars With Chris Alpert
Chris Alpert, Vice President, Basketball Operations for the D-League, has been following the progress of all of the members of the D-League All-Star team throughout the season. Here are his comments on all twenty players who will be making the trip to Las Vegas to represent the Eastern and Western Divisions. The D-League All-Star Game will air live on NBA TV on January 17th, at 5 p.m. ET.


Will Conroy (G, Tulsa 66ers) - "Currently on a 10-day Gatorade Call-up with the Memphis Grizzlies, Conroy is a tremendous competitor who makes his teammates better with his passing ability and leadership. He is tough, hard-nosed, pure PG with great court vision."

Clay Tucker (G,Arkansas RimRockers) - "A long-range shooting threat who can spread the court with his range out to the NBA three point line. Tucker is also a very underrated passer and playmaker. If we had a three-point shooting contest, he would be my pick."

BJ Elder (G, Austin Toros) - "One of the League's top scorers, Elder uses screens well and can create his own shot. He has a variety of moves and uses his long-range shooting ability to set up his drives to the basket."

Renaldo Major (G, Dakota Wizards) - "Recently returned from an NBA Call-up, Major is a slasher who can finish and can also hit the mid-range jumper. He is a defensive stopper and one of the League-leaders in steals per game."

Alan Anderson (F, Tulsa 66ers) - "Anderson is a versatile playmaker with very good all-around skills. He rebounds well, defends multiple position, and can handle the ball and create shots for himself or his teammates."

Stephen Graham (F, Sioux Falls Skyforce) - "Recently waived by the Blazers, Graham has an NBA body and NBA athleticism. He knows how to play and can score in bunches. He also rebounds the ball well and can push the ball up the floor and makes good decisions."

James White (F, Austin Toros) - "An NBA-assigned player from the San Antonio Spurs, White is a talented, multidimensional player who has really helped the Toros. He can defend, rebound and score. His presence and ability have positively changed the way the Toros play. As he continues to play and develop, he will continue to improve his game."

Pops Mensah-Bonsu (F, Ft. Worth Flyers) - "An NBA assigned player from the Dallas Mavericks, Pops is an athletic rebounder and shot-blocker who affects the game in many ways. His leaping ability and energy make him a formidable force for the Flyers and he is rapidly improving his offensive arsenal and defensive ability."

Jared Reiner (C, Sioux Falls Skyforce) - "Reiner is an athletic rebounder and low-post scorer for the Skyforce. He runs the floor well for a player his size and can step out and hit the mid-range jumper as well."

Loren Woods (C, Austin Toros) - "Woods has made a significant difference for the Toros and the coaches have noticed. He has considerably improved Austin's rebounding and defensive ability. His experience and scoring ability have immediately helped the Toros."


Randy Livingston (G, Idaho Stampede) - "Livingston is currently leading the D-League in assists and is the driving force behind much of Idaho' success this season. His leadership, court awareness, and passing ability make Idaho a fun team to watch."

Pooh Jeter (G, Colorado 14ers) - "Jeter is athletic and quick, and exciting to watch. He pushes tempo and creates shots for himself and his teammates. He can hit the mid-range jumper and can break down defenses with his penetration and quickness."

Brian Chase (G,Los Angeles D-Fenders) - "Chase is a quick point guard with NBA three point shooting range. He has a quick release and can also penetrate the defense and create for his teammates.'

Von Wafer (G, Colorado 14ers) - "Wafer has been one of the most consistent performers so far this season. Most recently named D-League Player of the Month in January, Wafer has NBA athleticism and skill. He can score from the outside and in transition. He can create his own shot and is an underrated passer."

Dijon Thompson (F, Albuquerque Thunderbirds) - "Recently back with Albuquerque after a call-up to the Atlanta Hawks, Thompson has shown why the Hawks brought him in. He can do it all: score, rebound, pass and defend. He is a multi-talented player who plays at a very high level."

Jawad Williams (F, Anaheim Arsenal) - "Williams is another player who does just about everything for his team. He can score inside and from the outside, rebound, and pass the ball. He has really improved his game this year and I expect him to continue to develop and get a shot at the next level."

Kevinn Pinkney (F, Bakersfield Jam) - "Pinkney is a talented inside/outside power forward who can rebound, block shots and score on the low block. He also has a nice outside jump shot, which is rare for a player his size. His most impressive attribute is that he possesses a tremendous work ethic and seeks to improve each day."

Louis Amundson (F, Colorado 14ers) - "Recently signed by the Utah Jazz, Amundson showed in our League that he can help a team with his athleticism, hustle, and energy. He has a nice touch down low and can impact a game with his shot-blocking and rebounding."

PJ Ramos (C, Idaho Stampede) - "Ramos has made tremendous strides in our League this season. He is a force down low with a nice touch around the basket. He also patrols the paint with his rebounding and shot-blocking."

Elton Brown (C, Colorado 14ers) - "Brown is a physical rebounder and low-post scorer who leads the D-League in double-doubles this season. He has improve his mid-range jumper and has a nose for the ball on the glass. He is also a solid defender and passer."
