MVP: George Gervin, San Antonio
In only the second overtime game in the 30-year history of the event, George Gervin of San Antonio led the East to a 144-136 victory over the West at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland. Voted MVP after a 34-point performance, Gervin scored 18 points in the third quarter, when the East broke loose from a 64-64 halftime tally.
The game was tied, 128-128, at the end of regulation time. Then Boston's Larry Bird and Houston's Moses Malone put the East in control in overtime. Atlanta's Eddie Johnson registered 22 points and Malone 20 for the East, while Utah's Adrian Dantley topped the West with 23 points.
