MVP: Bob Lanier, Detroit
The combination of Bob Lanier and Spencer Haywood enabled the West to defeat the East, 134-123, in the Seattle Center Coliseum. Detroit's Lanier edged Seattle's Haywood for MVP honors, clinching the award in the fourth quarter when he scored 12 of his 24 points.
Haywood wound up with 23 points and was a major force throughout the game. New York's Dave DeBusschere, who scored 16 points in his final All-Star Game, and Atlanta's Pete Maravich, who tallied 15, were the East's leading scorers.
