Rookie sensation Oscar Robertson of Cincinnati upstaged the veterans and led the West to an overwhelming 153-131 triumph over the East in Syracuse. Robertson had 23 points and 14 assists on his way to the game's MVP Award. His 14 assists broke Bob Cousy's All-Star Game mark of 13.

St. Louis's Bob Pettit scored 29 points as the West put together the highest-scoring first quarter in All-Star history, running up a 47-19 lead in the game's first 12 minutes. Boston's Bill Russell led the East with 24 points and Syracuse's Dolph Schayes posted 21.
