John will perform his classic "Philadelphia Freedom" as part of specially choreographed introductions of the 2002 All-Stars before the Game's tip-off. Halftime will feature John's special performance of his new song, "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore" and his classic, "I'm Still Standing."
The 2002 NBA All-Star Game and halftime performance will be broadcast live on NBC in the U.S. and CTV in Canada with coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET. Fans in more than 750 million households in 210 countries around the world will be able to watch the game and halftime event.
The monumental career of international singer/songwriter and charismatic performer Elton John has spanned more than three decades. One of the top-selling solo artists of all time, he has won countless awards including Grammys, Tonys and an Oscar with 35 gold and 24 platinum albums to his credit. Elton's current CD, Songs From the West Coast, has been critically acclaimed and has just been nominated for a Grammy Award for "Best Pop Album." He has a second Grammy nomination for "Best Pop Male Vocal Performance" for the first single off the album "I Want Love." The new single "This Train Don't Stop There Anymore" features a video with Justin Timberlake portraying Elton John during the 70's.
The 51st NBA All-Star Game will feature the top players from the Eastern and Western conferences going head to head at the First Union Center in Philadelphia. It is the culmination of a week of activities that will showcase the greatest athletes in the world playing basketball at the highest level on an international stage, and will display the league’s deep commitment to its community.
