Players get ready to show their stuff at Chicago combine

Posted May 9, 2014 2:00 PM - Updated May 9, 2014 7:44 PM

Top players from U.S. colleges and select international products will be in Chicago next week for the annual NBA Draft combine, where they will work out and be tested as part of the buildup to the June 26 NBA Draft. The combine is the largest evaluation of players by NBA front offices, medical staffs and coaches.

Approximately 75 prospects are scheduled to attend. Most will participate in drills in a private gym May 15 and 16. But many players projected to be taken among the first 14 picks, not wanting to hurt their stock, will limit themselves to physicals and tests for strength, agility, speed and leaping.

The Chicago event begins the final push to the Draft, with the Draft lottery to be held May 20 and the majority of individual workouts to be scheduled from there, once the teams and prospects know the exact Draft order. Teams already have hosted some players expected to be picked late or not at all.

The adidas Eurocamp, the top international scouting event, will be held in Treviso, Italy, on June 7-9. At least one representative from every NBA team is expected to attend the gathering that, unlike Chicago, includes elite future prospects in addition to the players eligible for the 2014 Draft. Many experts are expecting a strong overseas presence in the lottery and first round for this year's Draft.

College basketball expert Seth Davis and NBA TV analyst Steve Smith will be on hand in Chicago for the 2014 NBA TV Draft Combine Special, with analysis and interviews with many of the top prospects, on May 14 at 1 p.m. ET on NBA TV. The NBA Combine will air on ESPNU on Thursday (May 15) and Friday (May 16) from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. CT and on ESPN2 from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. CT.
