Jason Collins is expected to sign with the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday and will become the first openly gay athlete to play in major professional sports, according to reports.
Collins, who announced that he was gay last year, is meeting with team officials Sunday afternoon. A contract is expected to be announced after the meeting, according to ESPN.
Collins, 35, played 13 seasons in the NBA with six teams. The last team was the Washington Wizards, but Collins never played after coming out as homosexual in a Sports Illustrated article about 10 months ago.
The contract is expected to be for 10 days.
