Amid a disappointing season, the Detroit Pistons have fired head coach Maurice Cheeks, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

Owner Tom Gores had high hopes for the team, which has a 21-29 record heading into All-Star week. The Pistons signed free agent Josh Smith and acquired point guard Brandon Jennings, but the new personal have not paid off.

The interim head coach is likely to be assistant coach John Loyer, according to Wojnarowski.
