DALLAS (AP) -- The Dallas Mavericks have waived guard Dominique Jones, creating an open spot on their roster.

The former first-round pick was in his third season with Dallas, averaging four points and 2.9 assists in 29 games. He started three times.
The 24-year-old Jones played in just five of 30 games before he was let go as Mike James' role expanded behind Darren Collison. James has started the past two games in place of Collison.
Jones was taken 25th by Memphis in 2010 and traded to Dallas on draft day. He has career averages of 3.1 points and 1.8 assists in 80 games.
