THE FACTS: LaMarcus Aldridge's short jump shot bounced off the rim as time expired, giving the Denver Nuggets a 111-109 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers Wednesday night at the Rose Garden. Ty Lawson and Andre Iguodala combined to score 59 points for Denver (37-22), which won its third straight game and for the 13th time in 16 outings.

Lawson scored 30 points and handed out six assists, and Iguodala matched his season high with 29 points to go with eight assists and six rebounds. Damian Lillard topped six Trail Blazers (26-31) in doubles figures with 26 points.

Aldridge added 22 and J.J. Hickson collected 18 points and 14 rebounds.

QUOTABLE: "The 3-ball has killed us at times this year, but sometimes paint beats 3-ball. Tonight, we got into the paint and scored a lot of points."

-- Denver coach George Karl

THE STAT: Portland's 19 turnovers turned into 26 Denver points. ...The Nuggets were 3-for-14 from 3-point range to Portland's 10-for-25, but the Nuggets ruled the points-in-the-paint battle 72-42.

TURNING POINT: With 17 lead changes and 10 ties, there wasn't one until Aldridge's shot went awry on the final possession.

QUOTABLE II: "I always put my money on L.A. If we had to do it all over again, I'd probably do the same thing. That's our All-Star, our best player, and that's his shot. I thought it was going in. I'm sure next time it will go in."

--Damian Lillard on Aldridge's missed shot as time expired

HOT: Lawson and Iguodala combined to make 23 of their 42 shots from the field.

NOT: In his second game since being acquired in a trade with Oklahoma City, Portland point guard Eric Maynor was 0-for-4, making him 1-for-9 in a Blazers uniform.

GOOD MOVE: Nicolas Batum trailed Lawson and swatted his layup attempt into the third row during a third-quarter fast break.

BAD MOVE: Portland didn't come quickly enough with help defense much of the game. The result was a succession of layups and dunks that gave the Nuggets 146 points in the paint in their two games at the Rose Garden this season.

NOTABLE: It was the first time in the last 13 Denver-Portland meetings that the road team emerged victorious. ... Portland's Batum filled up the stat sheet with 10 points, nine assists, six rebounds, five steals and three blocked shots in 40 minutes. ... The Nuggets' starting small forward, Danilo Gallinari, sat out his second straight game with a thigh injury. ... Hickson registered his 31st double-double of the season, ranking fourth in the league in the category. He has double-doubles in all three games against the Nuggets this season. ... Portland rookie Meyers Leonard scored a season-high 13 points and had five rebounds on his 21st birthday.

QUOTABLE III: "It was great to see Andre [Iguodala] have his breakout game of the season in terms of confidence."

--George Karl
