Knicks' Anthony sidelined with sprained ankle

Posted Dec 15, 2012 7:24 PM

NEW YORK (AP) -- Carmelo Anthony missed the New York Knicks' game against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night because of a sprained left ankle.

Anthony was hurt Thursday in the third quarter of a victory over the Los Angeles Lakers when he landed awkwardly after he was fouled by Dwight Howard. Anthony had scored 30 points in 22 minutes, raising his average to 27.9 per game, second in the NBA to Kobe Bryant's 29.3.

Anthony missed two games last week after a cut on the middle finger of his left hand needed stitches. Coach Mike Woodson says Anthony is day to day and the Knicks would see how he is Monday before they play Houston.

Woodson said the Knicks would give rookie Chris Copeland his first career start in Anthony's place.
