DALLAS (AP) -- It didn't take Derek Fisher long to make his debut for the Dallas Mavericks.

The 16-year veteran point guard was the first starter introduced against Detroit on Saturday night, a day after he joined the team and practiced for the first time.
The Mavericks added Fisher, a five-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, because offseason addition Darren Collison was struggling before a sprained finger knocked him out of the lineup earlier in the week.
Dallas has been trying to replace Jason Kidd, who decided to sign with the New York Knicks after initially committing to the Mavericks.
Dominique Jones started the previous two games for Dallas. Collison replaced Fisher midway through the first quarter.
