SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- The Sacramento Kings have signed power forward Jason Thompson to a new contract.

The Kings announced the move on the first day free agents could sign Wednesday. The team had extended a qualifying offer to Thompson before free agency.
Thompson was a restricted free agent and had the opportunity to sign elsewhere and wait to see if Sacramento matched the offer. Instead, he decided not to take the chance and signed with the Kings.
Thompson averaged 9.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists playing mostly off the bench last season. He was selected by the Kings with the 12th overall pick in the 2008 draft.
Terms of the deal were not announced.
