Hawks forward McGrady leaves briefly with injured ankle

Posted May 5 2012 12:11AM

BOSTON (AP) -- Atlanta Hawks swingman Tracy McGrady briefly left Friday night's game against Boston with an injury to his right ankle.

McGrady left late in the second quarter but returned for warmups at halftime and was back on the court midway through the third quarter.

McGrady was injured when he took a jump shot and appeared to land on Rajon Rondo's heel. McGrady tried to get up but went back to the court. He was eventually helped off by Hawks medical staffers.

McGrady, 32, averaged 5.3 points this season, his 15th in the NBA.

He had 10 points and six rebounds in 16 minutes in the first half of Game 3 on Friday.

Atlanta was already without forward Josh Smith, and centers Al Horford and Zaza Pachulia.

The series was tied 1-1.
