Report: NBA to cancel training camps, some preseason games

NEW YORK (AP) -- A person with knowledge of the plans says the NBA will cancel training camps and some preseason games Friday after failing to reach a new labor deal with its players.

Training camps were expected to begin Oct. 3.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Thursday on condition of anonymity because the league had yet to announce its plans.

The cancelations, which became unavoidable after another meeting between owners and players Thursday failed to end the lockout, were first reported by Yahoo Sports.

Negotiators for both sides wouldn't predict after the bargaining session if the entire regular season, scheduled to begin Nov. 1, could be saved.
