ATLANTA (AP) -- Houston rookie Patrick Patterson was taken to Piedmont Hospital during the Rockets' game against Atlanta because of chest pain and congestion.
Team spokesman Bob Schranz said Patterson left in an ambulance before the start of the third quarter. Schranz added that Patterson, the NBA's No. 14 overall draft pick, was experiencing flulike symptoms before the game.
According to Schranz, the medical staff at Philips Arena sent Patterson to the hospital because it was thought he needed to undergo more tests.
Patterson played 3 minutes, 54 seconds of the second quarter, scoring six points in a reserve role. The former Kentucky standout began the night averaging 5.5 points. Houston recalled him from Rio Grande Valley of the NBA Development League on Dec. 13.
