AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Reports say Platinum Equity chairman Tom Gores has a 30-day exclusive window to buy the Detroit Pistons.
The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News, citing unidentified sources, reported Friday that Gores has a 30-day period to finalize a deal. Last year, around the time the season started, the Pistons were negotiating financial terms with Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch, but the sale was never finalized.
Owner Karen Davidson's husband, Bill Davidson, died in 2009. The late owner helped the Pistons win NBA titles in 1989, 1990 and 2004.
Neither the Pistons nor Platinum Equity are commenting on Friday's reports.
