Mavs' Nowitzki returns to game after spraining ankle

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Dirk Nowitzki has returned to the Mavericks' game against Memphis after leaving with a sprained ankle in the second quarter.

Nowitzki's ankle was retaped at halftime and he returned to start the second half Wednesday night.

The 7-foot forward went down under the Memphis basket with about 3:46 left before halftime. He stayed down as the play went to the other end. The Dallas training staff attended to Nowitzki on the court and he was taken to the locker room.

Nowitzki leads the Mavericks in scoring at 25.7 points a game, ranking him fifth in the league.

Dallas led at halftime 55-50.
