NBA Digital today announced the launch of NBA Turnstile, the first professional sports multiplatform check-in application that will reward fans for attending and watching live games, and connect them to social media platforms such as Foursquare, Gowalla, Twitter, Facebook, and Fanvibe through the league's digital products.
Available during the 2010-11 NBA season, NBA Turnstile will be accessible through NBA Game Time, the NBA's mobile application that provides video highlights, scores, statistics, player information and more.
NBA Turnstile, developed in conjunction with Fanvibe, will combine virtual and location based check-ins for fans during all NBA games allowing them to compete against each other to unlock virtual badges, earn NBA prizes, and receive special discounts. The innovative application will reward fan loyalty with weekly, monthly, and season long badges, in addition to unlocking virtual content tied to special NBA events during the year, such as Christmas Day Games, NBA All-Star, and The Finals. Overall, fans will be able to access NBA Turnstile through Web sites, mobile, and select connected devices.
"NBA Turnstile merges our efforts in mobile and social media by harnessing the power of location based services in an innovative way," said Bryan Perez, senior vice president/general manager, NBA Digital. "The combination of physical and virtual check-ins and the integration with major location-based networks creates a powerful platform for teams, fans and advertisers alike."
NBA Turnstile features include:
• Foursquare, Gowalla, and Fanvibe: Building on relationships with Foursquare and Gowalla, which dates back to The Finals 2010, users of each social networking platform can log into NBA Turnstile with their existing account information to receive credit for in arena and location based check-ins. As part of a new relationship, fans will also be able to access NBA Turnstile through Fanvibe.
• Facebook and Twitter: During games fans will be able to connect directly with other fans through Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms, through a special "Shoutout" feature on NBA Turnstile.
• NBA Team / In Arena: NBA Turnstile will allow fans in arena during games to compete against each other to unlock virtual badges, earn discounts, and receive special merchandise and ticket offers. Many teams including Boston, Dallas, Golden State, New Orleans, New York, and Phoenix will create custom experiences for fans.
• NBA Tune-In: NBA Turnstile will allow fans to unlock special badges for watching nationally televised NBA games on ABC, ESPN, TNT and the league's 24-hour network, NBA TV. ESPN will feature an exclusive RV badge for fans, highlighting the NBA on ESPN RV campaign.
