A league source confirmed a report by Comcast Sports Net Washington on Friday that the Wizards fined guard Gilbert Arenas $50,000 for faking a knee injury on Tuesday.
Arenas told the team that his knee was sore Tuesday morning and thus was held out of that night's game against Atlanta. But after the game Arenas told reporters that he had faked the injury in order to give guard Nick Young, who had struggled in recent games, more playing time. Young scored 24 points against the Hawks. The team fined Arenas on Wednesday.
Arenas didn't start Thursday against Milwaukee, but suffered a groin injury just three minutes after coming into the game in the first quarter.
