Yi's 26 leads China past Ivory Coast

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) -- Yi Jianlian scored 26 points to lead China to an 83-73 victory over Ivory Coast on Sunday in the preliminary round of the world basketball championship.

Wang Shipeng added 25 points for China (1-1), which held a comfortable lead throughout the second half. The 7-foot Yi and the 6-6 Wang gave China an advantage inside.

Mouloukou Diabate had 20 points for Ivory Coast (0-2), which lost 86-47 to host Turkey in the tournament opener.

Wang opened the second half with a 3-pointer to give China a 44-33 lead. Diabate's 3-pointer with 1:09 to play brought Ivory Coast within 80-73 but China closed the game by going 3 of 4 from the free throw line.

China, playing without injured NBA All-Star Yao Ming, bounced back from an 88-81 opening loss to Greece.
