Grade
FrnCourt
Only Antawn Jamison's consistency kept this from being a failing grade. Brendan Haywood hasn't played a minute, Etan Thomas is out with a torn MCL and JaVale McGee is raw.

D

BckCourt
Caron Butler has been his usual consistent self and Nick Young has shown some flashes during the season, but the Wizards haven't gotten anything from any other guard on the roster.

C

Defense
For the first time in the history of Washington D.C. someone went with the stimulus package (Gilbert Arenas' $111-million deal) instead of spending on defense. Other teams may give up more per game, but few give them up as easily.

F

Bench
With so many injuries, the reserves have had plenty of chances to play. But because of the injuries, the units have been patchwork and consistency has been lacking.

C-

Coaching
Ed Tapscott inherited a deteriorating situation when he replaced Eddie Jordan on Nov. 24. The Tapscott era has been beset by injury and indifferent play, especially on defense.

Summary

For a town suffused with hope surrounding Barack Obama's new administration, none of it has rubbed off on the Wizards. This season has been disappointing on every level. Eddie Jordan got the blame early for the Wizards' failings, but Tapscott hasn't been able to turn it around either.

Injuries have taken their toll (neither Arenas or Haywood has played a minute) and Thomas, DeShawn Stevenson and now Andray Blatche are out indefinitely. The defense by any metric (pace, points per game, points per 100 possessions) and the "effort" in trying to play it have been atrocious. The Wizards' -7.1 point differential is the worst in the NBA.

Not having Arenas has hurt them, but Washington still has two All-Stars in Butler and Jamison. The Wizards should be better than nine wins. -- Rob Peterson
