Source: Kings' Martin out two months with broken wrist

The Sacramento Kings, already struggling with long-term injuries in the backcourt, will now be without their best player, guard Kevin Martin, for about eight weeks after Martin has surgery on Monday to repair a broken wrist, according to a league source.

Martin initially injured his left wrist on Monday, when he scored 48 points, after he got tangled up with Memphis's Allen Iverson during the Kings' 127-116 victory over the Grizzlies. He played in Wednesday's 113-105 loss to the Hawks, scoring 29 points in 40 minutes, but an MRI taken Thursday revealed Martin had a nondisplaced hairline fracture of the navicular bone. He was given the option of surgery or putting his wrist in a cast, each of which would cost him up to two months, or try to continue playing in pain.

The 26-year-old Martin was third in the league in scoring at 30.6 points per game.

It's the latest setback for the Kings, who already have lost key reserve guard Francisco Garcia for four months after he suffered a broken arm during training camp when the exercise ball on which he was lying and lifting weights exploded beneath him. Earlier this week, forward Andres Nocioni was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Without Martin, the Kings will likely use guard Beno Udrih in the backcourt alongside rookie point guard Tyreke Evans.
