Enjoy Kidd... There won't be one like him for some time

If there was ever a question if Jason Kidd is Hall of Fame bound, the career milestone he achieved on Sunday afternoon should all but solidify his place in the domed hallowed grounds.

Kidd brushed aside the legendary showman Magic Johnson and took over the No. 3 spot on the all-time career assist list. His pinpoint and timely passing helped the Mavs drill the Suns and all but secure the West's final playoff spot.

"Jason Kidd has an iron will," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said. "Some of the stuff that he was inventing out there offensively for us was just phenomenal."

For Kidd, this is nothing new. After all, it took many moons of night in and night out dishing to finally hit the 10,000-plus assists plateau. There's no telling when another like him will come along. Appreciate seeing greatness.

Jason Kidd, Mavericks, had 19 points and a season-high 20 assists -- passing Magic Johnson for No. 3 on the career list -- to lead Dallas past Phoenix 140-116.

Kelenna Azubuike, Warriors, had a season-high 30 points and a career-high 15 rebounds as Golden State hung on to beat Sacramento 105-100 for its third straight victory.

Streaks

New York snapped a nine-game losing streak in Toronto with a 112-103 win Sunday, stopping the Raptors' season-high six-game winning streak. The Knicks hadn't won north of the border since March 5, 2004. ... Carmelo Anthony scored 23 points and Denver cruised to its seventh win in a row, beating Minnesota 110-87.

Home Cooking

If they can win their final three home games, the Cleveland Cavaliers will match the 1985-86 Boston Celtics (40-1) for the best home record in NBA history.

Sharing is Caring

Dallas' Jason Kidd set team records for first-half assists (16) and assists in a regulation game (20), plus passed Magic Johnson for No. 3 on the career assists list in the Mavericks' 140-116 win over Phoenix on Sunday.

One-Man Show

Will Bynum scored a franchise-record 26 points in the fourth quarter of Detroit's 104-97 victory over Charlotte on Sunday. Bynum, who finished with a career-high 32 points, scored the final 13 points for the Pistons. He made all six of his field-goal attempts and went 14-for-16 from the free-throw line in the fourth.

Whoa, Nellie!

Golden State coach Don Nelson participated in his 3,364th NBA game as a player or coach on Sunday, surpassing Lenny Wilkens' league record. The Warriors also won their third straight, winning 105-10 at Sacramento.

Fast Starts

Utah outscored New Orleans 41-19 in the first quarter of its 108-94 win Sunday night, marking the most points scored by the Jazz or allowed by the Hornets in a quarter this season.

Good News, Bad News

Portland clinched its first playoff berth since 2003 when Dallas beat Phoenix on Sunday, but the Trail Blazers then went out and lost 102-88 at Houston.

Scoring Woes

Philadelphia was held to a season low for points in a 96-67 loss at New Jersey on Sunday. The 29-point loss was also the 76ers' worst defeat, with the previous low for points 72 and the highest losing margin 24. The 67 points also were the fewest allowed by New Jersey this season, three less than Denver scored on Feb. 7.

Close Call

The Los Angeles Lakers edged the Clippers 88-85 on Sunday night to remain a game behind Cleveland for the NBA's best record. The Lakers' 61st victory came against a team that trails them by 43 games in the Western Conference, but they did just enough to win their third in a row and improve to 33-5 at home.

Long Wait

Oklahoma City rookie D.J. White scored 14 points in his NBA debut after missing the first five months of the season following jaw surgery, but the Thunder lost 117-99 to the Indiana Pacers. White, the Big Ten player of the year last season for Indiana, hit his first six shots and finished 7-for-8 from the field.

Quote of the Night

"We knew we were in trouble. I want to find out who the scheduler was that made us play this game after they lost their last two." -- Spurs coach Gregg Popovich on facing the Cavs on Sunday
