Anything you can do, I can do better

Six years ago, the hype surrounding the 2003 NBA Draft centered on the possibility of the new millennium's version of the Bird-Magic rivalry: LeBron vs. Melo.

Carmelo Anthony is averaging 22 points and has the Nuggets on track for another playoff berth, but the head-to-head showdown between he and LeBron James is nothing compared to what has materialized lately between James and Dwyane Wade.

A day after James lit up the Kings for 51 points, Wade followed with 50 points Saturday afternoon in a 140-129 triple-overtime win over the Jazz.

"Just another day at the office," Wade said after the win.

Rightfully so. In the past week, Wade has put up scoring totals of 25, 48, 32 and 50, helping the Heat to a 3-1 record in the four games.

James, not to be outmatched, had three straight triple-doubles and closed out the week with the 51-point outburst.

NBA.com's Race to the MVP has both James and Wade in a battle for the top spot, which James currently holds. But there are five weeks to go. With the kinds of weeks these two have put up throughout the course of the season, the closing days of the season should definitely be entertaining to say the least.

Stat of the Night

The Bulls' Tyrus Thomas blocked a shot against the Hornets, extending his club-record streak to 28 games with at least one.

Passing 'Zo

Dwyane Wade passed his good friend and mentor Alonzo Mourning on Saturday to become the leading scorer in Miami Heat franchise history. Wade's dunk with 11:05 left in the third quarter against the Utah Jazz gave him 21 points for the game, and 9,460 in 380 career regular-season appearances. Wade finished with 50 points in Miami's 140-129 win in triple-overtime. Mourning, who played for the final time in December 2007, scored 9,459 points in 593 games with the Heat. With his fifth of 10 rebounds -- coming with 2:48 left in the third quarter -- Wade also moved into eighth on Miami's all-time charts in that department with 1,857, one more than Shaquille O'Neal.

Strong in Defeat

Deron Williams had 30 points and 13 assists in Utah's 140-129 triple-overtime loss at Miami on Saturday. ... Chris Paul scored 29 points in New Orleans' 97-79 loss at Chicago. ... Kevin Durant scored 22 points and Ryan Westbrook had 20 in Oklahoma City's 106-95 loss at Phoenix.

Replacing Bill

Bill Davidson's widow is expected to succeed her husband as owner of the Detroit Pistons. Pistons president Tom Wilson said Saturday that Karen Davidson will fill the ownership role following the death of the longtime owner Friday at 86. Davidson was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in September. He also owned the WNBA's Detroit Shock and Palace Sports & Entertainment.

Big Spurts

The Chicago Bulls used runs of 18-0 in the second quarter and 17-0 bridging the third and fourth to beat New Orleans 97-79 Saturday night, sending the Hornets to just their second loss in 11 games.

Swings

Houston's 88-85 loss to San Antonio on Saturday night was the Rockets' second straight home defeat after winning the previous 12. ... Charlotte's 108-100 loss at Minnesota was the Bobcats' third straight following a team-record, six-game winning streak.

Close to a Milestone

Gregg Popovich coached his 999th career game in San Antonio's 88-85 win at Houston on Saturday night. He'll become the 24th coach in NBA history to reach 1,000 when the Spurs visit Oklahoma City on Monday. Popovich will be the seventh man to coach his first 1,000 games with one team.

Strong Finish

Leandro Barbosa scored 11 of his 22 points in the final 61/2 minutes Saturday night and the Phoenix Suns rallied to beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 106-95 and snap a six-game losing streak, their longest in four seasons.

Homecoming

After getting a rousing ovation and a hug from a little girl sitting courtside who was wearing one of his old Nuggets jerseys, Marcus Camby watched Nene and Renaldo Balkman each post a double-double in Denver's 107-94 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night. Camby struggled with his shot in his first game at the Pepsi Center since the Nuggets traded him to the Clippers last summer for salary cap relief, scoring 11 points on 3-of-10 shooting and pulling down 11 rebounds.

Speaking

"Ever since I left, I have been getting nothing but love from around the city of Denver (when) I've been here. If I could have gotten a nickel for everybody who told me they miss me and they wish I wouldn't have been traded, I could have probably helped out the economy."
-- The Clippers' Marcus Camby after his first game in Denver since being traded to Los Angeles last summer for salary cap relief. Camby finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the Clippers' 107-94 loss.

"I'm ready to go lay down."
