Utah's Williams misses second game to deal with family issue

Posted Nov 14 2009 7:29PM

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Utah point guard Deron Williams missed his second straight game Saturday night against Cleveland to deal with a family medical issue.

Williams returned to Salt Lake City on Friday morning and missed Utah's game in Philadelphia. He said in a statement following the game that his daughter underwent a procedure on Thursday to "address some health concerns."

Williams averages 20.4 points and 9.9 assists. Utah, which concluded a four-game trip Saturday, returns home to play Toronto on Wednesday night and will play seven of its next eight games at home.

Jazz coach Jerry Sloan doesn't know when Williams will rejoin the team.

"If a guy has a problem at home, take care of that problem," Sloan said. "I let the player do what he thinks is best for him and his family."

The Jazz had only nine available players, as was the case in Friday night's 112-90 victory over the 76ers. Also missing are guards Ronnie Price (sprained left big toe) and Kyle Korver (left knee surgery) as well as forwards Matt Harpring (ankle/knee) and C.J. Miles (left thumb surgery).

Utah started rookies Wes Matthews and Eric Maynor in the backcourt for the second straight game. Matthews scored 16 points in his first career start, while Maynor had 13 points and 11 assists Friday.
