Blazers sign rookie Pendergraph, who will have hip surgery

Posted Sep 9 2009 7:19AM

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The Trail Blazers signed rookie Jeff Pendergraph a day before the forward is set to have hip surgery.

Terms of the deal Tuesday were not disclosed.

The team says Pendergraph is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday to correct a left hip impingement. A timetable for his return will be determined afterward.

The 6-foot-9 Pendergraph was the 31st overall pick in the NBA draft by Sacramento. The Blazers acquired him in a draft-day trade.

Pendergraph averaged 14.5 points as a senior at Arizona State last season.
