Bulls' Rose, Wolves' Love named Rookies of the Month

NEW YORK -- The Chicago Bulls' Derrick Rose and the Minnesota Timberwolves' Kevin Love today were named the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in March.

Rose ranked first among rookies in assists (5.9 apg) and minutes (38.7 mpg), second in scoring (16.9 ppg) and third in free throw percentage (.851). The first-year guard led the Bulls in scoring three times, rebounding twice and assists 11 times. Rose posted seven games with at least 20 points and 10 games with six or more assists.

Love ranked first among rookies in rebounds (9.6 rpg) and third in scoring (15.8 ppg) for the month. In addition, Love scored double digits in 14 of 17 games in March, 20 or more points three times and recorded nine double-doubles. For the season, he leads all rookies in rebounding (8.9 rpg) and double-doubles (24).

Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls

March. 6 vs. Milwaukee: Recorded a career-high 27 points to go with six rebounds and two steals, in a 117-102 win over the Bucks.

March 9 @ Miami: Tallied 23 points and nine rebounds in a 130-127 double-overtime loss to the Heat.

March 18 @ Oklahoma City: Registered 25 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 103-96 win over the Thunder.

March 31 @ Indiana: Posted 24 points in addition to a career-high 11 rebounds and six assists in a 107-105 loss to the Pacers.

Kevin Love, Minnesota Timberwolves

March 3 vs. Golden State: Recorded 18 points and had 14 rebounds in a 118-94 loss to the Warriors.

March 17 @ San Antonio: Scored 17 points and added 19 rebounds in a 93-86 loss to the Spurs.

March 18 @ New Orleans: Posted 23 points and 11 rebounds in the Timberwolves 94-93 loss to the Hornets.

March 31 vs. Dallas: Registered 23 points, 12 rebounds, and three assists in a 108-88 loss to the Mavericks.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference T-Mobile Rookies of the Month were the Charlotte's D.J. Augustin, the Los Angeles Clippers' Eric Gordon, Memphis' Marc Gasol and O.J. Mayo, Miami's Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers, New Jersey's Brook Lopez, Orlando's Courtney Lee and Sacramento's Jason Thompson.

In support of a season-long effort to better the various youth communities in Phoenix, the Host City of NBA All-Star 2009, T-Mobile will donate $20 per point scored on behalf of the players named the T-Mobile Rookies of the Month. For the month of March, T-Mobile will donate $5060 on behalf of Chicago's Derrick Rose and $5360 on behalf of Minnesota's Kevin Love.
