• NCAA to NBA: An in-depth look at some tournament facts

Name: Juan Dixon, Washington Wizards

School: University of Maryland, 1998-2002

Tournament credentials: 2002 national champion, 2002 NCAA Tournament's Most Outstanding Player

My NCAA Moment: Easy. Winning the national championship. Getting the trophy. It was a tough tournament, we played all the top seeds. We were a No. 1 seed but we played all the top seeds that year. It was a lot of fun. We took it one game at a time and we worked hard at it and we stuck together and were able to win the national championship.

I Think About My NCAA Trip ...: Caron Butler and I talk about it once in a while, especially around this time of the year we talk about it a little bit more. We spoke about it a couple times earlier this year. [Editor's note: Dixon's Terrapins beat Butler's UConn Huskies in the 2002 Elite Eight.]

And alumni still talk about 2002 like it was yesterday. People really appreciate what that 2001-02 team was able to do for the University of Maryland and for the Maryland/DC area so I get a lot of support out there. They're still really excited about that year.

At Home to Remind Me: I got memorabilia. I got a picture of me and Coach [Gary] Williams. Someone drew a picture of me dribbling and him coaching. I have a couple jerseys. I got a lot of my stuff.

Who I'm Watching This Year (Teams): I might be realistic and not pick Maryland all the way because my little brother [Jermaine Dixon] plays for Pittsburgh. So I'll have two brackets. Of course I want Maryland to win, but I'm being realistic. If they make a good run, that's great, but there are some great teams in the tournament this year. We're playing against a good California team, so hopefully we can play well enough to move on, but they just have to take it one game at a time.

Hopefully it will be Maryland vs. Pittsburgh.

Who I'm Watching This Year (Players): I'm really looking forward to see how [Davidson's] Stephen Curry pans out. I think he's a tremendous scorer on the college level. I'm sure a lot of people don't think he's capable of playing the point, but I think he'll be fine. If he finds a good situation here in the NBA, I think he'll have a bright career.

I like [Maryland's Grievous] Vasquez. I wish his attitude was a little different though, his approach. I love how aggressive he is, I love how confident he is, but there's a difference between being confident and cocky. When I get a chance to see him, I want to rap to just him about that like, 'You know what I'm saying, don't be cocky, change your attitude.' I was at one game and he was going at the Maryland fans! I don't know what that whole incident was about, but he has to find a way to just calm it down a little bit but still be true to himself.
