NEW YORK -- The Boston Celtics' Doc Rivers and the Los Angeles Lakers' Phil Jackson today were named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Coaches of the Month, respectively, for games played in October and November.

Rivers guided the Celtics to a 16-2 (.888) record in October and November, thanks in part to six-and eight-game winning streaks (the eight-game streak is current). The Celtics, who surrendered 90.1 ppg, were 10-0 in contests where the opposition tallied 89 or fewer points. Boston won 11 of 12 games against teams that had a record of .500 or better on game day. Rivers won the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month Award three times last season, including the opening month of the season. Jackson led the Lakers to a 14-1 (.933) mark during October and November.

At 14-1, the Lakers are the lone one-loss team remaining in the league. Los Angeles, which is in the midst of its second seven-game winning streak of the season, owns a tidy 4-0 mark within the Pacific Division and boasts an 11-0 record in Western Conference play. This marks Jackson's second consecutive Western Conference Coach of the Month award as he won for games played in April of 2008 as well.

Other nominees for the Coach of the Month were Atlanta's Mike Woodson, Cleveland's Mike Brown, Denver's George Karl, Houston's Rick Adelman, New Jersey's Lawrence Frank, Orlando's Stan Van Gundy, Portland's Nate McMillan and Utah's Jerry Sloan.
