Former Suns standout Rogers hurt in ATV accident

Posted Dec 1 2008 9:22PM

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Former NBA standout Rodney Rogers was hospitalized after getting injured while riding an all-terrain vehicle.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Monday that Rogers was four-wheeling in the woods in rural Vance County north of Raleigh on Saturday when he fell off the vehicle.

A patrol spokesman said Rogers was taken by helicopter to Duke University Hospital in Durham. His condition wasn't immediately known Monday night.

Rogers spent 12 seasons in the NBA from 1993-2005 and won the league's Sixth Man Award in 2000 with the Phoenix Suns. The 6-foot-7 forward played for seven teams during his career, averaging 10.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He was drafted in the first round (ninth overall) by the Denver Nuggets in 1993.

A college star at Wake Forest, Rogers averaged 19.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game during three seasons with the Demon Deacons. He was selected a second-team All-America by The Associated Press in 1993.
