All About Fashion

By Ana
Fashion is all about finding your own sassy style and working it. From the words of makeup artist Bobbi Brown, "It's not about rules, it's about options." So it's OK to be unique, creative and definitely be yourself. Real beauty begins from within and starts with a soft giving heart. Remember when you've got the inside working right the outside beauty will shine 100 times better and brighter.

Most of all fashion should always be fun not frustrating. We all seem to get in a fashion rut from time to time especially with makeup. We seem to get bored with our same daily routine, our same basic colors and for most women we just don't know how to apply it properly.

To get out of this rut you have to be open and willing to try new ideas. Give something new a chance. What was right for you ten years ago has probably changed and the color you think won't go with your skin tone or the color of your eyes is most likely what you need or have been looking for to enhance your look.

Colors
The weather is changing, those beautiful colors on the trees begin to pop out and Halloween is just around the corner. It's the beginning of fall.

Earth tones are always a favorite and will go with anything. (Brown, taupe, tan, khaki, olive green). However, rich accent colors will add a lot of warmth to your skin tone and style to your outfit. Try using oranges, greens, plums, and coppers for a pick me up. Too much of one neutral color can wash you out. Don't be afraid to mix and match your brown. The patchy look is in on jackets, shoes, handbags and belts.

Tops
70's with a modern twist. I think we all knew it would come back or maybe it never really fazed out. Big collars, big sleeves, fringe, suede, velour, and all sorts of funky prints. You'll see it everywhere and on everything.

This fall keep your look classy and yourself warm by not showing too much skin. Let the clothing do the talking. Tops with beautiful embroidered designs with a little Spanish flare, or a cute peasant lacy top is a perfect first layer for your outfit. These thin, pretty blouses will need a definite sweater or jacket as the weather begins to change. This fall wool or cashmere sweaters are best for warmth along with knitted turtlenecks in all the rich colors.

Finally layer up with a winter coat. Allow your coat to be a part of your outfit. It's ok for your coat to be fun and make a statement. Plain old black coats just don't do the trick unless you have fur around the collar, cuffs and or hoods. Fur is real big right now especially on all your hats, scarves, and gloves. Check out all the new fun colors and styles for all your winter accessories.

Leather jackets in different colors is a great alternative but a black leather jacket is always a closet necessity, however if color is too much for you try a black or brown jacket with a contrasting stitching. One last option to check out is those long and short denim jackets again with the fur or with a design that goes the whole length of the jacket.

Pants, Suits and Skirts
It seems that most pants or skirts are starting at the hips. However, I would suggest that you find a fit that's comfortable and flattering to your body. Suede and wool are the hot materials for fall for your pants and skirts. Suede is showing up in all sorts of new colors, like navy, green, and coffee browns especially for two-piece suits. If your comfort zone is a classy black suit, then try going with a pin striped suit for a stylish, slimmer look.

The one thing we'll always have in our wardrobe is our favorite pair of jeans. There are so many different styles now from dirty, dark, flared, shredded, patches, prints or even with the cute funky belts attached. Whatever your style, it's the easiest thing to throw on to dress up or down and you'll always look hot in your jeans.

Accessories and Shoes
Sometimes the best way to spice up your outfit is by keeping your pants, and tops simple and adding belts, jewelry, hats and cute shoes. Red and turquoise have been the hot accent colors on most of the earrings and necklaces. The beautiful Indian beading can take the place of basic silver hoops and plain chains.

We're not threading our belts through the loops to keep our pants on anymore, but letting them hang around the hips to show off the buckles, fringe, colors and patterns for style.

I believe shoes can be the biggest fashion statement for your outfit. A trendy pair of boots is ideal for the fall. Try taking your boots high to the calf or knee; this will make those cold days a little more bearable when wearing skirts. Take out the chunky heel and go slimmer and taller. You'll also find that the patchy look is in for boots along with all the earth tones and the trendy colors.

Makeup
This is all about you, the real you! Don't try and cover up those freckles girls, let your foundation even out your complexion but allowing your skin to still come through. Pick a shade that matches your natural skin tone. Warm your self up by using bronzers and use blushes that make you look naturally flushed.

Eyes
Try only using one or two shades for your shadows, the less is better. Keep the colors soft and neutral. Instead of adding depth by having a dark color for your contour, accent your eyes with eyeliner for more definition. Keep it close to your lash line for a soft day look or smudge it out for a smoky evening look. Don't take your shadow all the way up to the brow. Having a lighter or skin tone shade underneath the brow will highlight and open up the eye. If you like to use color try taking the color to your eyeliner instead of using black, (green, navy, chocolate brown and deep plum.) A must have is a good rich brown or black mascara.

Lips
I believe you can't go wrong with pretty glossy lips especially for the holidays. For a day look keep your shades one; to two shades darker than your natural lip shade adding a gloss on top. Just using a liner and gloss with color is another option for a natural lip. For evening go richer in color not necessarily brighter. Shimmer is gorgeous on the lips for a night look along with gloss.

That harsh dark line we use to draw around the mouth is OUT. The color of your liner should match your lipstick shade and lining after you apply your color will give you the most natural look. A must have is a red lipstick for your holiday look and shimmer for the eyes, face, body and hair is flashy and fun for all your holiday events.
